Walmart Drone Delivery Launches in Apopka and Clermont
Is Walmart Drone Delivery Now Available in Central Florida?
Yes — Walmart and Wing, a drone delivery company owned by Alphabet, officially launched drone delivery service in Greater Orlando on July 29, 2026. This marks Wing’s first market in Florida, following an earlier attempt by a different drone delivery partner that shut down in the state years ago. The service launched from two Walmart Supercenters: one in Apopka on South Orange Blossom Trail, and one in Clermont on Johns Lake Road. Together, these two locations now cover more than 50,000 homes, businesses, and apartment buildings across the surrounding area.
How Do I Know If My Address Is Eligible?
Eligibility depends on how close you live to one of the participating stores — generally within four to five miles. Customers can check their address and place an order directly through either the Wing app or the Walmart app. One important clarification: while some coverage has implied broader West Orange County availability, Ocoee is not live yet. That location, along with a second Clermont site and a store in Haines City, is expected to come online in the coming weeks, not immediately.
How Does the Delivery Actually Work?
The drones currently carry up to 2.5 pounds per flight, though Wing plans to increase that to 5 pounds soon. Orders arrive in 30 minutes or less. When an order is ready, a Walmart employee attaches the package to a tether hanging beneath the drone, which then calculates its own route and flies directly to the customer’s address at speeds up to 60 mph. Rather than landing in the yard, the drone hovers about 20 feet overhead and lowers the package gently using the tether. Wing had 18 drones positioned at the Apopka hub on launch day, all capable of flying simultaneously if demand required it.
Where Is the Service Expanding Next?
Wing and Walmart plan to bring the service online at three more Central Florida locations in the coming weeks: Ocoee on West Colonial Drive, a second Clermont store on U.S. Highway 27, and a location in Haines City. Beyond Central Florida, Orlando joins Dallas-Fort Worth, metro Atlanta, and Greater Houston as active Wing markets, with the companies aiming to eventually reach close to 20 metro areas nationwide, including Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami, and Philadelphia.
