Camping World Stadium’s $400 million renovation has been underway since February, but this week brought something new — DLR Group released updated renderings that refine the design first unveiled about a year ago.

What’s new in the latest Camping World Stadium renderings?

DLR Group released a dozen new renderings this week showing the finalized design for the stadium’s exterior and lighting. Lead architect Ryan Freeland said the design was inspired by moving water and palm fronds, resulting in a metallic skin that wraps the stadium and creates a “lampshade” effect at night when illuminated by color-changing LED lights. One of the renderings shared shows the stadium glowing in Jacksonville Jaguars-themed teal and gold, with matching fireworks — a nod to the team’s anticipated temporary relocation to Orlando.

What is the Camping World Stadium renovation, and why is it happening?

Camping World Stadium is undergoing a $400 million modernization, covering roughly 650,000 square feet, aimed at extending the venue’s life and making it more flexible for a wider range of events. The project was commissioned by the City of Orlando in partnership with Orange County and Florida Citrus Sports, with DLR Group providing architecture, interiors, experiential graphic design, and reality capture services. Construction began in February 2026, following a bumpy path to approval — the project was first proposed in 2023 and initially met skepticism from Orange County Commissioners over its cost, before finally being approved in late 2024. Completion is expected by summer 2027.

DLR Group Principal and Sports Design Leader Ryan Freeland said the design “reimagines the entire experience” of attending an event at the stadium, from arrival to departure. Camping World Stadium annually hosts marquee events like the Citrus Bowl, Pop-Tarts Bowl, Florida Blue Florida Classic, and EDC Orlando — all events the modernized venue is designed to support while opening the door to a wider range of future programming.

How is the $400 million renovation funded?

The entire project is funded through Orange County’s Tourist Development Tax — the 6% fee added to hotel and short-term lodging stays in the county. No local property tax dollars are involved; the funding comes specifically from tourism-related revenue rather than resident taxes.

What upgrades are included in the design?

The renovation increases permanent seating from roughly 63,000 to 65,000 and introduces a redesigned facade that serves double duty. Described as a climate-responsive “brise-soleil,” the new metallic exterior reduces sun exposure and takes advantage of prevailing winds for passive comfort, while also functioning as hurricane bracing for the structure. Other upgrades include a new North Endzone Tower connecting previously separated suite and terrace levels, retractable seating in the south lower bowl for faster conversion between sports and non-sports events, new and renovated suites, a north end zone club, and a fully rebuilt Terrace Level concourse. On the operations side, the south end of the stadium is getting a new loading dock, command center, and expanded support space. Rather than a full teardown, much of the existing structure is being selectively renovated instead of demolished, reducing embodied carbon in the process.

Why is the renovation timeline tied to the Jacksonville Jaguars?

The project’s summer 2027 completion target lines up with the Jacksonville Jaguars’ anticipated temporary relocation to Orlando for the 2027 NFL season, while their home stadium in Jacksonville undergoes its own renovation. That timing has added urgency to the construction schedule, since the venue needs to be ready to host a full NFL season on top of its usual lineup of college football, concerts, and other major events.

What does this mean for the area around the stadium?

A $400 million investment of this scale brings real short- and long-term activity to the area — the project is expected to generate around 1,500 construction jobs over its duration, with about 400 workers on site at peak activity. Beyond construction, a modernized, higher-capacity venue capable of hosting NFL games, major college football, and large-scale concerts strengthens Orlando’s position as a destination for major events — the kind of continued investment that tends to support long-term growth in the surrounding area.
