Seminole County Approves $160M+ Indoor Sports & Recreation Complex
Seminole County commissioners have officially voted to move forward with a massive $160 million to $175 million multipurpose indoor sports and recreation complex. The landmark decision, approved during their May 12, 2026 meeting, authorizes county staff to begin soliciting architectural, engineering, and construction management services. Spanning 28 acres near the Boombah Sports Complex and southeast of the Orlando Sanford International Airport, this regional destination is set to revolutionize local sports tourism and community gatherings.
Inside the State-of-the-Art Complex
The proposed venue is a substantial upgrade from early concepts, expanding to a footprint between 161,000 and 178,500 square feet. It is specifically engineered to accommodate up to 7,500 guests for major functions. The design features a diverse layout tailored for high-caliber competitions and community operations, including:
- 12 basketball courts and 22 indoor volleyball courts
- A 25-court beach volleyball complex
- Championship arena seating for 2,500 people
- Flexible event spaces for wrestling, cheerleading, and dance
- Local infrastructure additions including an on-site restaurant, walking paths, and park amenities
Importantly, the project will not burden local taxpayers. Funding is entirely generated through the Tourist Improvement District (TID) and Tourist Development Tax (TDT) revenues, backed by a self-assessment fee agreed upon by regional hotels.

The facility is projected to yield an incredible $2.4 billion in net economic benefit over the next 30 years. County officials anticipate attracting over 322,000 annual attendees, generating 42,000 hotel room nights each year, and creating 562 new local jobs. Beyond sports tournaments, it bridges a vital infrastructure gap by hosting local high school graduations, banquets, and serving as a critical emergency shelter during hurricanes.
